Who does Osama bin Laden support? (Get the book, it’s great.)

Bush Administration rhetoric has long been devoted to portraying Republicans as his Great Satan, but is that really the case?

After all, we know 9-11 was bungled. We know Osama has popped up, conveniently, whenever Bush has seemed to be in trouble.

And now, with support for the Iraq War down to a small number of Bush dead-enders, good Al Qaeda soldier Zaccharias Moussaoui suddenly cops to everything, practically demanding the death penalty when his advocates had just about gotten him off.

See, he’s saying. Bush protected you from me. These evil lawyers had my life spared. Now get back in line or they’ll let me kill again. Bwaa-hah-hah-ha!

As an Atlantan, I have finally figured out the plot. Uncle Remus.

Bin Laden’s plot has always been to unite the Arab world. But to do
that he needs an enemy, a real one. And, with George W. Bush, he has
the perfect foil.

Everything which has happened since Bush’s election has served Bin
Laden’s ultimate goal. Iraq is the Tar Baby. Afghanistan is the Briar
Patch.

Vanity, ignorance and arrogance have had Americans dancing, and dieing,
to Osama bin Laden’s tune for over five years now. The right way to
fight him is to treat him as what he is – a criminal – and not as what he
claims to be – a holy warrior. When we act as though men in caves can
really destroy us, we empower them. When our government does this to
empower itself, we are the greater fools.

The way out remains a floor price under energy so alternate domestic production
comes on-line, it means getting out of Iraq, it means accepting
responsibility for our own cupidity and playing smarter.  The answer to fear is to stop being afraid.

When will we figure this out?

Uh, Osama was/is a foil. Iraq was always the goal.
You want Osama? Put a billion dollar ramson on his head (it’s wayyyyy cheaper than Iraq) and offer to build “X” number of mosques. His own will smoke him out.
